Youth (Middle and High School)
Lock-Ins
There are two Lock-Ins per year. The evenings are filled with lots of food, fun, fellowship, games and other activities. There is time set aside for praise and worship and a devotion directing the teenagers hearts and minds to the Lord. Sometimes the group heads out for bowling and such. They spend the night at the church and depart in the morning.
Wednesday Night Youth Time 6:30 - 8:00 PM
After dinner, the youth go to the gym next door for organized team games and for the non-participants it’s time for additional social mingling. When game time is concluded they head back to the youth room for praise and worship and a lesson.
Discipleship Groups
For some our kids they want to go deeper with their walk with Christ. To help this happen, small discipleship groups are offered at a mutually convenient time for in depth Bible study, prayer and accountability. This is fertile ground for the Christian youth who wants to mature and develop into a man or woman of God.
Retreats
Spring and Fall retreats are offered for middle and high school students at our denominational conference center Bonclarken.
Upcoming Summer Events:
Conferences
During the summer on June 23-28 students head to Bonclarken for Quest (middle school) and on June 16-21 for Horizon (high school). These conferences are organized and lead by ministers who have a passion for youth and their growth in Christ. Not only are they challenged spiritually but the games are out of this world kind of fun. They will want to go back next year.
Service Projects
Various one day projects are scheduled so youth can minister to others. Some of these projects are leaf raking, yard cleaning, odd jobs in the church, helping with children’s events, Vacation Bible School, and the once a year 30 Hour Famine. They also do Project Christmas Child (shoeboxes) and local ministries such as Fifth Street Ministries.
Appalachian Mission Trip
In the first week of July, approved students who have demonstrated their commitment to Christ and to the church travel with the youth leader to the Tennessee/Kentucky region for children’s ministry. This is a denomination wide mission outreach. Funds for the trip are provided by the church and through fund raising events. Students return enthused, invigorated and joyful about what they have seen God do.
High School/Middle School Sunday School
J.J. Knox and Debbie Mundhenke are teaching this class. We meet downstairs beside the fellowship hall. We have used a variety of sources for Sunday School lessons. We have used the The Life Application Bible, The Student Bible, The Ryrie Study Bible, Common Sense Lessons and several others. We try to have a story which young people can relate to and follow it up with Scripture to show what God wants us to do. Topics have included prayer, doing the right thing, giving, forgiving, why 'bad' things happen to “good” people, dealing with difficult times, not telling the truth, and others. We are planning a survey of the Old Testament beginning in January
